Private Apartment | Hong Kong | Mid-levels West
We are honored to have been entrusted by the client with the comprehensive design and renovation of their new home. At the heart of this project lies not only the improvement of spatial functionality but also the celebration of a family’s boundless joy in welcoming a new life. Our goal is to create a “House of Play”—a space designed for both elegant gatherings and the uninhibited exploration and growth of a child.
Style: French Wood Tone
Departing from the ornate intricacies of traditional French design, we have defined the space with a “French Wood Tone” aesthetic. By incorporating elegant French lines and proportions alongside the warm, natural texture of wood, we have created a fresh, bright, and breathable living atmosphere. This approach perfectly balances the stylistic elegance appreciated by adults with the natural, pressure-free environment essential for a child’s development.
Lighting Design: Layered and Scenario-Driven
We moved away from a single main light source in favor of a multi-layered, zoning lighting strategy:
Ambient Lighting: Recessed LED strips and downlights provide even, soft baseline illumination, enhancing the sense of space.
Accent Lighting: An elegantly shaped French linear pendant hangs above the dining table, serving as a visual centerpiece and fostering a warm dining atmosphere. Adjustable spotlights in the reading area and art display wall highlight both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Mood Lighting: Floor lamps placed in corners, paired with warm-temperature lighting, create a tranquil and relaxing ambiance in the evening, accommodating the household’s diverse activities throughout the day.
Soft Furnishings & Styling: Refining French Elegance and Livability
Textile Selection: Curtains and sofa upholstery in natural materials such as linen and cotton lend a soft touch and natural drape. These elements complement the wooden features, effortlessly evoking a casual yet refined French sensibility.
Decorative Details: Handcrafted objects like woven baskets, pottery, and vintage shelves enrich the textural layers of the space, adding a touch of rustic and humanistic charm.
All furniture and ceiling details feature rounded edges to ensure child safety. Lightweight and movable pieces—such as modular sofas and flexible chairs—allow the layout to adapt freely as the child grows.
This is not merely a design project—it is our gift to the family.
