Tai Po Kau House
House/ Villa | Tai Po Kau | Tai Po
Tai Po Kau House brings biomimicry and biophilic design to a luxurious home through a bespoke skylight, leaf-like ceiling cutouts, a sculptural metallic island pierced by a raw marble pillar, and nature-inspired bronze details. We solved major spatial and light challenges by transforming a structural column into a focal feature and using a laser-cut skylight that creates dynamic organic shadows. Sustainability is built in via passive daylighting—extensive glazing, widened archways, and a foyer canopy—to reduce artificial lighting energy, while durable, sustainably sourced stone and metals with low- to zero-VOC wall treatments support healthier indoor air. The project achieved an estimated 35%–40% reduction in daytime artificial lighting energy load and selected over 70% of hard finishes for long-life durability and recyclability.
